Kimberley: “Bavarian City in the Rockies”
The town is exactly what you would expect of a Bavarian village. Instead of a downtown their is a “Platzl” (no cars in the Platzl,) sausage and sauerkraut at every restaurant, and a yodeling clock in the middle of town (in the Platzl).
We happened to be here for Julyfest, but I don’t know how to play bocce, and can not compete in the competition. The down hill skate-board race is a little fast for my taste, and i don’t have a soccer team. The only event left for me was the parade, alas, I slept in and missed it. I missed the Friggin’ JulyFest Parade, that only happens once a year, and this year was the 35th annual parade. I may never forgive myself for that foolishness. I blame it on the time-zone change. this town is on the rocky mountain time-zone, one hour ahead of my pacific time zone body. For me the parade was at 9:30 AM!
Speaking of time-zones, Siobhán and I are in the Rockies. We past the Kootanies, and entered a new time zone. Lots of Albertans like this time-zone, and this part of BC.
If you ever pass thru Kimberly, make sure it is during one of their monthly festivals. Some shops are only open when tourists are around. Also worth noting it that this town likes to employ pretty girls. Not everywhere, but more than an average town, from the info centre to the camp ground and even stocking the shelves of the grocery.
