Golden: something about a town of unlimited discovery
Upon entering Golden, British Columbia (the last town in BC on the Trans-Canada Highway heading East – or the first town in BC heading West) it was apparent that it was not a place to stay and enjoy.  7-11 was the popular spot in town.  The first park we tried to find took us awhile, and when we finally found it, the park was a walking only park, no parking. It was also small.  The next park was nice, at first.  There was a path beside an unnaturally white river down to a sandy beach.  We walked onto the sandy beach and got swarmed by mosquitos.  Siobhán was bitten several times in a matter of minutes, I was bitten twice.
The downtown-core was closed. Not every business opens on Sundays, Most of the rest closed before we walked the strip.  At quarter to five, multiple businesses that claimed to be open till 5:30 or 6:00 had already closed up.  No parks, no businesses, no reason to stay.
Just outside of town we came to a wolf sanctuary type thingy.  That was fun.  Captive wolves raised as wild ones – they looked at a human couple as the alpha male and female.  Most of the time the wolves stay in large outdoor cages, but when the alpha’s are both  present they can all go out into the wild and hunt or get exercise.
Leaving that we promptly found a rest area and set up camp.
